Along our journey of Building Community and Sense of Place, we began discussions with our Core Competency Inquiry group about if and how our students feel safe and connected at school.  From this discussion, a student discussion and activity was born to give us the real information as to how we are doing to ensure our students feel safe and connected while at school.  The two sentence starters we gave students were "My favourite classroom space is....  and  These people are important to me because..."  Attached are some examples of what students are saying but we also recognize that some of our students were not able to identify any one in the school who is important to them.  Moving forward we will further investigate how to ensure every child in the schools feels safe and connected with at least one adult in the building.
