Our Literacy Maker Space

As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening literacy, we have begun building our Literacy Maker Space as an active, hands-on, and collaborative learning environment designed to inspire creativity, communication, and joyful engagement with literacy.

Our staff are intentionally designing this space to support students in developing their storytelling, oral language, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. The Literacy Maker Space will include a green screen, whiteboards, loose parts materials, and digital technologies that encourage students to create, explore, and share their ideas in meaningful ways.

Teachers are planning learning experiences that integrate Joy in Literacy, STEM-inspired thinking, and open-ended opportunities for conversation, collaboration, and problem-solving. Students will be able to build, act out, discuss, design, and rehearse their ideas before expressing them through speaking, reading, and writing.

This learning space will:

• Provide authentic opportunities for students to engage in storytelling and communication.

• Encourage collaboration, discussion, and the development of oral language skills.

• Support diverse learners through multiple ways of representing and expressing their thinking.

• Build student confidence by allowing learners to work from their strengths while developing areas for growth.

• Create engaging literacy experiences that foster creativity, curiosity, and a positive identity as readers, writers, and storytellers.

Through the Literacy Maker Space, we hope to see students take greater ownership of their learning, engage more deeply in literacy tasks, and confidently share their ideas with others while celebrating learning together.
